Contract Name : Al Bahr Towers, Abu Dhabi UAE
Client : Abu Dhabi Investment Council
Contractor : Al-Futtaim Carillion
Contract Period : 2010 - 2012

AFC Abu Dhabi is currently constructing a new corporate Headquarters Building for the Abu Dhabi Investment Council. The project is a ‘twin tower’ development and, on completion, the towers will be occupied by The Council and its subsidiary Al Hilal bank, respectively.

The project consists of a 2 storey basement with car parking, plant and BOH areas; a ground floor and podium with bespoke entrances, receptions, and restaurants. The two towers of 147 meters height house 25 upper floors of commercial office accommodation that are augmented with landscaped ‘sky gardens’, auditoriums, large prayer halls, a grand podium entrance, and a spectacular ‘Crown’ feature at roof level.

A particular feature of the building is the Mashrabiya, a unique, dynamic solar shading system made up of individual units designed to open and close during the course of each day in response to the movement of the sun. The system will provide the client with significant sustainability benefits over the life cycle of the building in terms of energy efficiency.

In addition to being employed by a Sovereign Wealth Fund, AFC is working with a world class team of consultants. Mace is acting as Project Manager, Aedas is Lead Designer,DIAR is Architect of Record, Arup is undertaking Structural and MEP engineering design, and Davis Langdon acting as Cost Consultant.
